The U.S. Department of Defense announced a half dozen new contracts benefiting the U.S. Navy Wednesday. Of these, five went to publicly traded companies, namely:
- Computer Sciences (CSC), recipient of a $41.1 million option exercise on a contract to supply information technology support services to the Naval Education and Training Professional Development and Technology Center through September 2015.
- BAE Systems/Rockwell Collins (COL) joint venture Data Link Solutions, which won a $33.4 million cost-plus-incentive-fee delivery order under a previously awarded contract to develop, design, and implement four communications "nets" for the multifunctional information distribution system joint tactical radio system, or MIDS JTRS, terminal configuration. MIDS JTRS is described as an upgrade to the current MIDS low volume terminal. Data Link is to complete work on this contract by March 7, 2015.
- A smaller delivery order for the same services was placed with Data Link rival ViaSat (VSAT 5.23%). Also due for completion on March 7, 2015, ViaSat's contract, though, is for only $19.5 million.
- Meanwhile, Northrop Grumman (NOC -1.08%) won a $24.8 million firm-fixed-price delivery order under a previously awarded contract to supply 150 sets of repair parts for various navigation, radar detection, and steering equipment for installation aboard U.S. Navy submarines and surface warships. Delivery is due July 14, 2014.
- And finally, electrical components maker Ametek (AME 0.17%) was awarded a $13.1 million, five-year, firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to manufacture 750 stuffing tubes used in sonar systems on submarines. This contract will run through July 2019.
