Adding to its ever-increasing online storefront, Amazon.com (AMZN 0.87%) launched Amazon Art today, an online store selling more than 40,000 fine art works.
The new store features 150 galleries and artwork from more than 4,500 artists, making it what Amazon calls "one of the largest online collections of original and limited edition artwork for purchase directly from galleries and dealers." The galleries include Paddle8, Holden Luntz, McLoughlin Gallery, Modernbook, and Catherine Person Gallery. The site features galleries from across the U.S., U.K., the Netherlands, and Canada.
Peter Faricy, vice president for the Amazon Marketplace, said in a press release, "Amazon Art gives galleries a way to bring their passion and expertise about the artists they represent to our millions of customers."
Amazon Art features a wide range of works from Clifford Ross photographs starting at $200, to Andy Warhol's Sachiko for $45,000, to Norman Rockwell's Willie Gillis: Package from Home for $4.85 million. The new site lets users search for artwork and includes detailed descriptions of each piece.
