The list of official winners of a massive $10 billion, 10-year, multiparty contract award from the U.S. Department of the Interior just keeps getting longer.
So far, Lockheed Martin and IBM recently announced they have each won a $1 billion allotment under DOI's new Foundation Cloud Hosting Services project to move the Department's IT services onto "the cloud." This morning, Verizon (VZ 0.90%) confirmed that it, too, has won a $1 billion contract.
Verizon describes its role in the project as providing cloud and hosting services, including "cloud-based storage, secure file transfer, virtual machine, and database, Web, and development and test environment hosting services," and also SAP application hosting services.
According to the FedBizOpps.gov government contracting site, other companies that have won contracts worth $1 billion apiece under the $10 billion umbrella contract include:
- Privately held Acquilent, GTRI, and Smartronix
- Canada's CGI
- AT&T
- Unisys
Each of the companies listed above is winning a separate contract, worth approximately 10% of a $10 billion pot of federal money that is being allocated among multiple contractors for the purpose of bringing Interior into the "cloud."
Most of these contracts had already been announced some months ago, but were held up and could not become official pending results of a bid protest by jilted bidder CenturyLink, which protest was recently dismissed by the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
