Pump prices are cheaper this week than last, according to an Energy Information Administration report (link opens a PDF) released today.
Retail regular gasoline prices clocked in at a national average of $3.587 per gallon for Sept. 9, $0.021 below last week's price tag. Midwest prices dropped the most ($0.059), while the West Coast saw a $0.047 increase in gas prices.
Compared with a year ago, pump prices are down $0.26.

For the same period, average retail diesel prices stayed steady, remaining at a national average of $3.981 per gallon. On a regional basis, however, there were both ups and downs. Lower Atlantic prices made the deepest $0.013 dip, while the West Coast added on $0.014 to per gallon prices.
Over the past year, diesel prices have dropped $0.151.

At these latest prices, the West Coast pays the prettiest penny for gasoline ($3.797) and diesel ($4.142). On the other end, the Gulf Coast can guzzle gas for just $3.377 and diesel for $3.898 per gallon.
