It's arguably the hottest segment in the auto business: "Crossovers," those SUV-like vehicles built on car-like platforms, have become a global craze. From tiny, inexpensive entries like Ford's (NYSE: F) EcoSport to luxurious and expensive entries from Porsche and others, crossovers are huge business right now.

The auto show season kicked off this week in Frankfurt, Germany, and as Fool contributor John Rosevear explains in this video, SUVs and crossovers were the big theme -- as nearly every automaker seemed to have new entries on the way.
