Graphics specialist NVIDIA (NVDA -2.48%) is preparing to report its latest earnings results. The core GPU business will probably fare well, especially when considering recent figures from IDC on the state of the PC market. Intel recently reported better-than-expected results as well. The Tegra segment has hit speed bumps this year as NVIDIA focused heavily on developing its Tegra 4i, which entailed pushing out the Tegra 4 schedule.

As a result, NVIDIA has not won a lot of tablet wins this year, a direct contrast to its design win activity last year. Tegra 4i will be NVIDIA's first processor with integrated LTE and is critical to its success in the smartphone market. The new chip is due out in early 2014 after it completes carrier certification. Investors will want to know how the Tegra 4i development is progressing, and whether it will be delayed -- again.

In this segment of Tech Teardown, Erin Kennedy discusses NVIDIA's upcoming earnings with Evan Niu, CFA, our tech and telecom bureau chief.
