LinkedIn (LNKD.DL) launched its "volunteer marketplace" today, a dedicated section of LinkedIn.com reserved exclusively for volunteer opportunities.

In a blog post, Executive Chairman and co-founder Reid Hoffman noted that many LinkedIn members aren't looking for traditional employment opportunities, and a dedicated volunteer marketplace provides a space to seek out mutually beneficial partnerships between professionals and the non-profit community.

Hoffman wrote: "By providing opportunities for all these different kinds of LinkedIn members, we aim to help the social sector by doing what we do best as a company: connecting talent with opportunity at massive scale."

LinkedIn's members have already demonstrated a desire for more non-profit work, according to the company. More than 3 million of its 259 million members have included the "Volunteer and Causes" section in their profile -- adding information on the volunteer work they do and causes they support --  and in the last six months, 600,000 have signaled they would like to volunteer their skills or serve on a board.
