While many see the Google (GOOGL 0.55%) brand as being inseparably linked with the idea of smart glasses after it announced the development of its Google Glass, the Korea Times is now reporting that Samsung could be planning to launch its own smart glasses, called "Galaxy Glass." The report suggests that the glasses could have similar functionality to Samsung's recent smart watch release, the Galaxy Gear, linking to the user's phone to display alerts, take calls, play music and so on.

But with the Galaxy Gear having been largely a failure with consumers, is tethering this new device to the user's phone again really the best approach? In this video segment from Monday's Tech Teardown, host Erin Kennedy sits down with Motley Fool tech and telecom bureau chief Evan Niu, to discuss Samsung's strategy with its Galaxy Glass. Evan also looks at why there are no rumors that Apple (AAPL 1.27%) is aiming for the smart-glasses space, and why this may not be a very interesting area to tackle for Tim Cook and company.
