The Internet of Things, ever heard of it?
Many analysts believe it will become a multi-trillion industry and many tech industry followers are likely aware of its potential. In fact, anyone attending International CES 2015 couldn't turn a corner without coming across a company trying to make an impact in the IoT. Bellwether IoT Companies like Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM)and Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) both showcased their newest offerings in the space as well.
As connected devices penetrate every aspect of our lives, various consortiums and wireless language standards have been developed to enable communication between devices from different manufacturers, Zigbee being one such language leading the charge. The bold forecasts for tens of billions of connected devices leading to trillion dollar plus market opportunities will not be fully realized without industry accepted language standards.
I spent the week in Las Vegas at CES attempting to uncover what languages IoT players are standardizing upon and what I found may surprise some investors.
