It's a challenging phase for the fertilizer industry as crop prices continue to fall, hitting farmers' income and demand for nutrients. Investors have reacted strongly and dumped Potash Corporation (NYSE:POT) and The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS), with both stocks losing half their value over the past year.
However, investors may have overreacted in Mosaic's case. While both PotashCorp and Mosaic deal in similar nutrients, PotashCorp's profits have fallen at a rapid pace, and it faces greater hurdles to its growth prospects going forward.
