Is Tesla Falling Behind in Autonomous Driving?

Tesla's comments and actions show that it may already be behind competitors in self-driving technology.

Tesla (TSLA +3.93%) has been a leader in autonomous driving with its Autopilot software, which costs between $6,000 and $12,000 in new vehicles. But is Tesla the industry leader, or are companies like General Motors (GM +0.50%) and Alphabet (GOOG +0.41%) (GOOGL +0.66%) surpassing Tesla's technology with very little fanfare?
