BlackBerry stock surges on QNX projects
On Jan. 2, BlackBerry published a press release announcing that it was renaming its Blackberry IoT division QNX. Investors didn't have to wait long to get more substantive news about what the business unit is up to.
BlackBerry issued a series of press releases today announcing new features and projects from QNX. For starters, the company announced the launch of the QNX Cabin framework -- a software system that makes it easy for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to virtualize the development of digital cockpits. The company also published a press release stating that it was doubling down on developer support through its QNX Everywhere project, which aims to expand QNX's developer community and expand adoption of its software outside the commercial sphere.
BlackBerry's QNX announces some exciting partnerships
In a press release published today, QNX announced that it had entered into a partnership with Vector and TTTech to create a foundation-level software platform for vehicles. The platform aims to offer a superior alternative to complicated and costly software integration processes and allow auto OEMs to focus their efforts on building responsive, high-quality consumer interfaces and applications that strengthen their brands.
Even better, QNX then announced that it was partnering with Microsoft to help deliver software innovations for vehicles. The QNX Software Development Platform 8.0 will soon launch on Microsoft Azure, providing a cloud-based suite for creating, testing, and integrating software for Internet of Things devices and vehicles. Further down the line, the companies expect that QNX Hypervisor and QNX Cabin will be integrated into the Azure-based offering.
