Throughout Apple's (AAPL 0.62%) "thermonuclear" war against Google (GOOGL -0.23%) Android, the Mac maker has historically shied away from targeting the search giant directly. Instead, Apple has always assaulted Android OEMs, including Samsung, HTC, and Motorola, to name a few.

As part of its lawsuit against Samsung, Apple is requesting a court order Google to hand over source code related to Android. Since Google would be a third party, it would have less rights than Apple or Samsung when it comes to "reciprocal discovery."
