Target (TGT -0.80%) and Wal-Mart (WMT -0.27%) have struggled with same-store sales in 2013, but this isn't a phenomenon that's exclusive to these two discount retailers. High-end retailers have struggled as well and one of the culprits is online sales. Amazon.com (AMZN -1.41%) is outpacing almost every brick-and-mortar competitor there is, which is troublesome for those without a big online presence.
