General Motors (NYSE:GM) has been solidly profitable for a while, but its profits are still far behind those of its two main global rivals, Toyota (NYSE:TM) and Volkswagen (NASDAQOTH:VWAGY). CEO Dan Akerson has made no secret of the fact that closing that gap is a huge priority for GM.
