Ultra HD TV is a huge buzz phrase in the consumer electronics world these days. But because of high costs, sparse content, and the size of screen required to even discern the extra resolution, some analysts say it's premature for investors to be jumping in.

Still, it's never too early to investigate groundbreaking technology. Besides the actual set-makers -- such as Sony (SONY -0.24%), Samsung, and Panasonic -- investors can consider the ecosystem growing up around ultra HD.

Shawn DuBravac, chief economist for the Consumer Electronics Association, spoke to the Ultra HD conference at CE Week in New York City about Qualcomm (QCOM -0.68%), NVIDIA, and other supporting companies in that ecosystem.

Motley Fool analyst Rex Moore was there, and spoke with Shawn afterward about these other investment opportunities.
