Aluminum companies has been lobbying the automotive industry to make the switch from steel for some time now. It appears their efforts are starting to pay off. Ford (F -1.23%) recently announced that its new F-150 will sport a much more lightweight frame thanks to the fact that it will now be 97% aluminum. Companies like Alcoa (AA) and Kaiser Aluminum (KALU 2.55%) have to be licking their chops, hoping that it convinces other major manufacturers to follow suit.
