Ever since late 2013, when Whole Foods Market (WFM) released third-quarter earnings that disappointed Wall Street, financial journalists -- including many here at The Motley Fool -- have questioned whether the supermarket chain's stock is still worth owning.

Whether it is due to lower prices for organic goods or encroachment by natural/organic upstarts such as Sprouts Farmers Market and Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage, many believe Whole Foods' days of heady growth are over.
