Researchers have found that, after a Facebook (META -1.12%) user "likes" a certain number of items, the social network could develop a personality profile that's more accurate than personality assessments from friends, family members, and even spouses. The study from researchers at the University of Cambridge and Stanford University showed how well a computer can assess a person's personality.

While other companies like Google and Amazon have the ability to develop similar profiles, neither has the reach of Facebook, which now serves nearly 1.5 billion monthly active users. Facebook's social graph, coupled with its data, puts it in a position to take on business models of other social networks like LinkedIn and Twitter.
