Most folks with matrimony on their minds might think of companies such as Tiffany, Blue Nile, and The Knot. But Home Depot (NYSE: HD)? That's a new one.

A few days ago, a couple in southern California tied the knot at a Home Depot that employs both the bride and groom. According to The Associated Press: "The bride wore white. The guests wore orange smocks."

As odd as it may sound, a store like Home Depot actually has fitting accoutrements for such an assembly; the store's own lumber and other hardware were used to build a stage and a wedding arbor. (And one can only imagine where the happy couple were registered!)

Every once in a while, you'll hear a story like this, where someone's affinity for a certain brand gets included in the ultimate symbol of love: a wedding. I remember the first time I saw a picture of a wedding cake consisting of Krispy Kreme Donuts.

As an investor, you should be on the lookout for brands that elicit such powerful feelings of love (or obsession), which suggest that loyal customers will follow their chosen companies anywhere. Just ask anybody with a Harley-Davidson (NYSE: HOG) hog or Volcom (Nasdaq: VLCM) stone tattoo. I must admit, however, that I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Home Depot could also elicit such a romantic display.
