Facebook (META -4.13%) now has appointed Mike Schroepfer as its new chief technology officer.  The job had been unoccupied since last summer, when former CTO Bret Taylor departed the company.

Prior to his ascension, Schroepfer was vice president of engineering at the social networking giant, after serving in the same position at Mozilla. He has been at Facebook for almost five years, and he is also a board member at privately held genealogical research site operator Ancestry.com.

In a statement emailed to several news outlets such as Bloomberg, Facebook said of Schroepfer that his "new designation as Facebook's CTO reflects the unique and important role he plays across the company."
