A Consumer Reports tester has found a problem with the interior trunk escape mechanism on the 2013 Lexus ES and GS. The tester discovered by accident that the safety feature, which has been standard since 2002, can break off when tugged in a certain direction.
This problem was found by accident when the tester's curious 4-year-old son tried to use the mechanism, according to the magazine. The tester opened the lid from the outside.

This new problem comes to light shortly after Toyota issued a global recall of almost 7.5 million cars this week because of a defective power-window switch that may pose a fire hazard. The voluntary recall is the second-largest single recall in automotive history.
