FLIR Systems (FLIR) landed a big contract from the Pentagon on Tuesday.

Announced among more than a dozen Department of Defense contract awards that added up to more than $2.7 billion in total value, FLIR's $82.4 million award for the procurement of Talon Forward Looking Infrared Systems may not look like much, but it amounts to nearly 6% of all revenues the company collected last year.

The system that's the subject of Tuesday's contract, the Talon, is a military-qualified electro-optical, infrared (EO/IR) sensor system that FLIR says is suitable for installation on everything from fixed and rotary wing aircraft, to warships, to small boats, and even land vehicles. It consists of a lightweight, gyro-stabilized 9-inch turret that can carry up to six payloads simultaneously, and record high-resolution digital images.
