Nvidia (NVDA -2.56%) has strengthened its pole position at the center of AI infrastructure as spending continues shifting from individual GPUs toward complete AI factory systems.

In its fiscal 2027 first quarter that ended in late April, Nvidia reported record data center revenue of $75.2 billion, up 92% year over year, as hyperscalers, AI labs, enterprises, and governments continued expanding computing capacity. Blackwell remains a major contributor, while the next-generation Vera Rubin platform is now ramping into full production.

A major development is Nvidia's effort to turn AI compute into an investable infrastructure asset. In August 2026, Nvidia announced partnerships with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, and KKR designed to mobilize more than $500 billion of third-party capital for AI infrastructure.

Rather than Nvidia funding that build-out entirely from its own balance sheet, institutional investors can finance GPUs, data centers, power infrastructure, and other assets that customers then use to produce AI compute. The arrangement could help expand Nvidia's addressable market by making expensive AI infrastructure accessible to customers that otherwise could not finance it themselves.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM -3.97%) sits at the center of the global chip supply chain. Its competitive advantage comes from its scale and ability to manufacture some of the world's most advanced semiconductors for customers that design chips but do not operate their own fabrication plants.

The latest results show how quickly AI is changing the business. TSMC generated $40.2 billion in second-quarter 2026 revenue, while gross margin reached 67.7% and operating margin hit 60.3%. Management is guiding for an even stronger third quarter, with revenue of $44.6 billion to $45.8 billion.

The company is also moving beyond 3-nanometer and 5-nanometer production. Its 2-nanometer technology entered high-volume manufacturing in late 2025, while the enhanced N2P and A16 processes are scheduled for volume production in the second half of 2026.

Supporting that growth requires enormous capital investment. TSMC is adding advanced capacity in Taiwan while expanding manufacturing in the U.S., Japan, and Germany. In Arizona, its second fab is scheduled to begin 3-nanometer volume production in the second half of 2027, while its second Japanese fab is now expected to use 3-nanometer technology beginning in 2028.

Intel Corp. (INTC -6.66%) remains one of the more unusual semiconductor turnaround stories. The U.S. government became a major shareholder in 2025, investing $8.9 billion for 433 million shares, equivalent to a 9.9% stake. Combined with $2.2 billion in CHIPS Act grants Intel had already received, total government investment hit $11.1 billion.

Operationally, there are signs of progress. Intel 18A entered production in 2025, allowing products such as Core Ultra Series 3 to move from roadmap promises into commercially available chips. Intel Foundry has since moved 18A-P, an enhanced version offering higher performance and improved thermal characteristics, into production. The company also completed the U.S. government's RAMP-C program in July 2026, providing another milestone for its efforts to establish advanced domestic semiconductor manufacturing.

Investors have responded positively to the turnaround. Intel shares have more than doubled in 2026, although the rally now reflects considerably more optimism in the stock price. In August, the company announced a $15 billion common-stock offering that was subsequently upsized to approximately $20 billion, with 210.5 million shares priced at $95 each. The capital provides additional funding for the foundry expansion, but existing shareholders must also absorb the dilution.

Its latest earnings suggest those markets are strengthening. In the second quarter of 2026, revenue increased 23% year over year to $5.46 billion, driven by growth in demand across industrial, data center, and automotive segments. Net income climbed 53% to $1.98 billion, while earnings per share increased 52% to $2.14. Cash generation also improved substantially, with trailing 12-month free cash flow reaching $6.5 billion, up 271% from the comparable period. Management expects third-quarter revenue of $5.65 billion to $6.15 billion and earnings per share of $2.23 to $2.57.

Income is another reason investors may find Texas Instruments attractive relative to other semiconductor stocks. The company currently pays a quarterly dividend of $1.42 per share, or $5.68 annualized, which equates to a yield of roughly 2% based on its August share price. More importantly, Texas Instruments has increased its dividend for 22 consecutive years through 2025. Its dividend grew at approximately 8% and 15% annualized rates over the preceding five and 10 years, respectively, with a 4% increase in 2025.

Qualcomm (QCOM -2.35%) is still best known for mobile chip design and wireless technology, but its latest results show a business becoming less dependent on smartphones. Snapdragon X processors target AI-enabled PCs, while Snapdragon Digital Chassis provides automakers with platforms for connectivity, infotainment, automated driving, and other software-defined vehicle functions.

In fiscal third-quarter 2026, Qualcomm reported revenue of $9.95 billion, down 4% from $10.37 billion a year earlier. Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) net income fell 25% to $2.0 billion, while diluted earnings per share declined 23% to $1.87. Within its two major segments, QCT chip revenue decreased 5% to $8.50 billion, while QTL licensing revenue declined 3% to $1.28 billion. The near-term results were affected by what management described as a challenging memory and supply environment, but Qualcomm continues to see diversification as its primary growth opportunity.

Management said non-handset revenue grew 24% in fiscal 2026 and expects that growth rate to accelerate to more than 60% in fiscal 2027. Longer-term, Qualcomm is targeting $40 billion in non-handset revenue by fiscal 2029, almost double the goal it set in November 2024. That includes opportunities across automotive, Internet of Things (IoT), AI PCs, edge computing, and data centers.

Like Texas Instruments, Qualcomm also offers something many higher-growth semiconductor stocks do not: meaningful income. The company currently pays a quarterly dividend of $0.92 per share, or $3.68 annualized, equivalent to a dividend yield of roughly 2% at recent prices. Management also authorized a $2 billion share buyback program, with $1.4 billion deployed, accounting for roughly 8 million shares.
